It looks like "The Night Of" season 2 will happen after all, at least based on the latest update by HBO president for programming, Casey Bloys.

At the Television Critics Association (TCA) winter press tour, the network executive revealed that series creators Richard Price and Steven Zaillian are devising ways of how to bring the show back.

"Steve [Zaillian] and Richard [Price] are throwing around ideas. I'm hopeful they will land on something," Bloys said of "The Night Of" season 2, as quoted by Collider.

"But one thing I know about them, if they're not 100 percent sure about something, they're going to take their time. I told them we'll be here when you're ready. I'm hopeful that they're getting an idea they're excited about," he went on to say.

From the looks of it, Price and Zaillian want "The Night Of" season 2 to happen as much as HBO wants it. After all, the eight-part crime drama enjoyed a positive reception from fans.

HBO is giving "The Night Of" duo all the time and preparation they need in order to make sure it will be back with a bang and will live up to the expectations set by the well-received first season.

Fans will remember that Michael Lombardo, the predecessor of Bloys as president for programming, blamed himself for the poor performance of the second season of "True Detective" after a strong showing for the first season.

"Our biggest failures — and I don't know if I would consider True Detective 2 — but when we tell somebody to hit an air date as opposed to allowing the writing to find its own natural resting place, when it's ready, when it's baked — we've failed," he told The Frame last year.

It looks like HBO would not want that for "The Night Of" season 2 and even for "True Detective" itself, which is expected to have a third season.
