"The Originals" was a spin-off of The CW series "The Vampire Diaries." The show had run for three seasons so far, but rumors say that it's already nearing its end because "Diaries" is also pushing through with its final season.

Reports said that the end of "The Vampire Diaries" may just as well see the cancellation of "The Originals." A lot of fans are expectant for a fourth season of the series, but it could very well be the last of the vampire drama.

Some fans have actually speculated that there's a chance the series could get picked up by ABC. What's interesting is that the CW is host to numerous DC shows like "The Flash" and "Arrow" while ABC hosts Marvel shows like "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and the now cancelled "Agent Carter." A turnover from The CW to ABC, however, has not been confirmed.

Viewership of "The Originals" has been in steady decline over the years, what with the death of fan favorites Davina (Danielle Campbell) and Cami (Leah Pipes). Season 4 has even dropped on the number of episodes, coming out with 13 instead of the usual 24.

Rumors suggested that the series may even have a crossover with "The Vampire Diaries" as Caroline (Candice King) will be coming to New Orleans to try and free Klaus. After the entrapment of Marcel (Charles Michael Davis), the Mikaelsons are left hanging by a thread.

Caroline's rescue may also lead to her rekindling her relationship with Klaus. Caroline's former lover Stefan (Paul Wesley) is said to get back together with returning character Katherine (Nina Dobrev).

The crossover has not been confirmed, but fans are hoping that it could happen. It is the last season after all.

As of now, it looks like "The Originals" is already prepped for its season finale, and fans can expect it to premiere early 2017.
