Disney recently released the final trailer for the upcoming film "The Space Between Us," dropping hints about what can be expected from the young adult sci-fi movie.

The latest promotional video for the film gives the impression that it will most likely be a love story. It depicted how the main male character named Gardner Elliot (Asa Butterfield), who is the first human being to be born on the planet Mars, will go against all odds just to meet her online friend on Earth, Tulsa (Britt Robertson), who may be able to help him find his father.

"Tulsa, what's your favorite thing about earth?" Gardner is heard asking Tulsa around the end of the latest trailer.

Tulsa replied, "You are, Gardner Elliot."

As reported by Blastr, the film's story seems like a typical young adult romance novel, but it is actually not based on any book released in the past. Directed by Peter Chelsom ("Serendipity"), "The Space Between Us" was penned by Allan Loeb ("The Switch") from a story he had written with Steward Schill and Richard Barton Lewis.

According to the film's synopsis, Gardner Elliot's mother was one of the astronauts who embarked on the first mission to colonize Mars, only to find out after takeoff that she was pregnant. His mother dies from complications shortly after landing, while giving birth to him. She never revealed who the boy's father is. And so, the boy grew up on Mars and reaches the age of 16, having only met 14 people in his very unconventional upbringing.

In his efforts to look for clues regarding the identity of his father and the home planet he's never known, Gardner forms an online friendship with Tulsa. Eventually, he gets the chance to visit the planet he could only read about on Mars, opening up his world to simple and extraordinary experiences. However, they soon discover that Gardner's organs will not last for long in Earth's atmosphere.

To complete his mission of finding his father, he must escape the protection of scientists and race against time to discover the mysteries of his origin and to resolve within himself his place in the universe.

Aside from Butterfield and Robertson, the upcoming film also stars Gary Oldman, Carla Gugino, BD Wong, and Janet Montgomery.

"The Space Between Us" is scheduled to hit theaters on Feb. 3, 2017.
