'The Vampire Diaries' season 8 episode 14 spoilers: Stefan and Damon team up against Cade to protect Elena's casket

The Salvatore brothers go head to head with Cade (guest star Wolé Parks) on the upcoming episode of "The Vampire Diaries" season 8.

Titled "It's Been a Hell of a Ride," next week's episode will continue to explore the fight against Cade. According to the official synopsis, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) must team up in an effort to save Elena's casket. Elsewhere, Caroline (Candice King) and Alaric (Matt Davis) figure out a way to deal with their child's growing magical powers.

The CW released a new promo for the hour, and it shows Damon and Stefan having a discussion about their next move against their enemy. "Cade is free because of me. That's why I have to kill him," Stefan tells his brother. "[If] you screw this up, you don't know what he'll do to Elena," Damon responds. The clip ends with Cade telling the duo that their "suffering is just beginning," he adds.

Back in season 6, Elena was put in a magic-induced coma. Thanks to a spell by Kai (Chris Wood), Elena's life was linked to Bonnie (Katerina Graham), her best friend. This means that Elena can't wake up until Bonnie is dead.

After two seasons and three years within the show's timeline, Dobrev will be making her anticipated comeback. Tthe actress will reprise her role as the latest Petrova doppelganger in the series finale airing next month, and she recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly to discuss her return.

"The nostalgia is insane," the 28-year-old said."I keep getting triggered by moments: a piece of wardrobe, a person's voice, a crew member's laugh. It's like a trip down memory lane, and I have so many beautiful memories of the six years that I spent here. I'm really glad that I got to be a part of it," she added.

The eigth and final season of "The Vampire Diaries" airs every Friday night at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
