'The Vampire Diaries' season 8 release date, spoilers news: Series finale to feature less magic? Ian Somerhalder and Julie Plec butting heads over Nina Dobrev?
It's the final season of "The Vampire Diaries," and just when fans are rejoicing over Nina Dobrev's possible comeback, Ian Somerhalder expresses his disappointment outwardly.
At the recent San Diego Comic-Con, the cast and showrunner of The CW's vampire series sat down for an interview to discuss the final season of the series. During the course of the interview, the prospect of Dobrev returning to fulfill her promise to showrunner Julie Plec was touched.
Among the cast members present, it was Somerhalder, Dobrev's ex-boyfriend, who displayed an unsettling behavior when asked about the possible return of old cast members.
"No! You're not gonna get them! Sorry, bud. Zero," the actor immediately said.
His reaction only intensified rumors that he and wife Nikki Reed, whom he married within a few months after breaking up with Dobrev, are having marital problems.
Some fans were disappointed with Somerhalder's rude behavior during the interview, as it seemed he was trying to show control over everyone in attendance.
Dobrev left "The Vampire Diaries" after season 6 after her break-up with Somerhalder, but she apparently promised Plec that she would be back for the series' final season. Plec is holding on to that promise, but Somerhalder made it seem that he and Plec have already agreed on something concerning Dobrev's return.
"I'm sorry, I thought we already had a conversation about this," Somerhalder said. "Apparently not."

Meanwhile, Melty reported that the show's final season could feature less magic in its storyline. It would be recalled that Bonnie (Kat Graham) lost her magic after Damon (Somerhalder) severed her ties to the final Everlasting.
Plec affirmed this when she told TV Line's Andy Swift at this year's SDCC that they would "get as far into the season as humanly possible without having to rely on anything magical like a locator spell, any kind of phasmatos chanting."
