'The Vampire Diaries' season 8 spoilers news 2016: Another familiar face to come back; Nina Dobrev return still up in the air

With "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 being the show's final season, fans are counting on the return of Nina Dobrev as Elena Gilbert. However, there are more comebacks to expect while waiting for news about the star's return.

Among the familiar faces helping the show to say goodbye is Sarah Salvatore with Tristin Mays returning to Mystic Falls in the closing season of the supernatural drama.

It is a mystery as to why Sarah is back in town in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8, especially because when fans last saw her in the sixth season, she was advised by Enzo (Michael Malarkey) to get as far away from Mystic Falls as possible.

It would certainly be interesting how she shakes up the dynamic between the group in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8, especially since it has changed drastically ever since she moved away.

Sarah was Stefan's (Paul Wesley) secret back then. He made it his responsibility that she will live a happy life after Damon (Ian Somerhalder) killed her mother. Of course, the secret was soon out, thanks to Enzo.

It could be that Sarah might end up helping Damon once again slip back into his humanity. TVLine also believes that she could be sharing some scenes with Matt (Zach Roerig).

The site does not expect Sarah to appear in multiple episodes in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8. This is because Mays will be very busy with the "MacGyver" reboot, where she was tapped for the role of Riley Davis.

Executive producer Julie Plec is serious in bringing as many beloved characters from the show as possible in wrapping up the beloved drama.

Whether it will be resurrection, flashback or just a plain return, Plec wants to bring as many as she can so long as it will make sense on the show. With regards to Dobrev's return, the EP hopes the star will keep her word to come back.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 premieres Friday, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
