Stefan (Paul Wesley) tries to make it up to Caroline (Candice Accola) in the upcoming winter finale of The CW's hit supernatural drama "The Vampire Diaries" season 8.

Titled "The Next Time I Hurt Somebody, It Could Be You," this week's episode will center on Stefan and his determination to make it up to Caroline. After the fallout of his latest encounter with Cade (guest star Wole Parks), Stefan tries to celebrate Christmas Eve with the love of his life. However, the romantic dinner Stefan planned takes a dark turn when Alaric (Matt Davis), Matt (Zach Roerig), Peter (guest star Joel Gretsch) make an unexpected visit.

The series only has 9 episodes to go before its finale, and fans have been wondering if Nina Dobrev will ever come back to play Elena one last time. Although many reports claim that the actress may soon return, lead actor Ian Somerhalder recently said in an interview that he still doesn't know if his ex-girlfriend/former co-star will come back to the show.

"I don't know. I have zero idea. As a producer, I do have a lot of information and then there's a lot of information I don't have. I want the audience to be happy, but I also am very pro human," the actor told Variety. "I don't think these guys should have the ability to wreak havoc, kill everybody, ruin the lives of so many and then get out with a happy ending. I think the happy ending is that we got to go on this amazing ride with these two guys. They've lived long enough."

What lies ahead after the winter finale remains unclear, but actress Candice King confirmed that there will be a time jump

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 airs every Friday night at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
