'The Vampire Diaries' season 8 spoilers, plot news: Final season's premiere gets title; 'Klaroline' to prevail over 'Steroline'?
"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will be the last one for the series, and if executive producer Julie Plec would have it, she wants the final season to pay homage to the supernatural drama's beginnings.
According to Plec, season 8 will have 20 episodes. She also confirmed that the premiere episode for the eighth installment will be titled "Hello Brother," an allusion to the greeting that Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) usually says to his brother Stefan (Paul Wesley).
Design and Trend reported that Plec, the producers and the writers of "The Vampire Diaries" are looking for ways to pay homage to the series' maiden season in the eighth and last installment.
"We are just in the early stages of writing the scripts, but every day in the room, we talk about the different ways we can celebrate the first season. There's a pitch on the table now about the Miss Mystic Falls Pageant, the Decade Dance and the Founder's Day, going back to the idea of the root of the founding families," she said.
She made it clear that while they are exploring different storylines for season 8's episodes and intent on breathing life to those, there's no guarantee that these would push through.
Meanwhile, there are speculations that a June wedding might be set for Stefan and Caroline (Candice Accola). Those who have been following the show would remember that Caroline has been talking about a June wedding she has been planning since the start of the show. If Plec and the production team are aiming to celebrate season 1, a wedding in the final season is a great way to connect to it continuously, according to Inquisitr.
On the other hand, a twist could happen once Caroline realizes she doesn't want to marry Stefan. This would afford her time to "revisit" her short romance with Klaus (Joseph Morgan) of the spin-off series "The Originals."
With Klaus' whereabouts unknown, Caroline could decide to head on out to New Orleans to look for Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) so she could help her find a cure for the Mikaelson siblings and save Klaus herself. It's worth noting that Klaus and Caroline had a strong connection back when the Original family was wreaking havoc in Mystic Falls. As has been reported, Caroline could be the one to break into Klaus' tougher exterior in "The Originals" season 4.
These are all speculations at this point, something both "Klaroline" and "Steroline" shippers would probably want the showrunners to explore. At any rate, it remains to be seen if any of these would be realized when "The Vampire Diaries" returns on air.
The eighth and final season of "The Vampire Diaries" will premiere on Friday, Oct 21 at 8 p.m. ET on the CW.
