'The Vampire Diaries' season 8 release date, spoilers news: Alaric gets a new love interest; Caroline and Klaus reunite?

The long dating record of Caroline Forbes (Candice Accola-King) throughout the past seven seasons of "The Vampire Diaries" ("TVD") has been very interesting, as the female lead of The CW supernatural drama series always ended up with someone fans never thought she would date.

Perhaps one of the most memorable romantic partners of Caroline in the series is Alaric Saltzman (Matthew Davis), her high school teacher. The two finally called it quits after the colorful history they shared in the seventh season. In season 8, it might be time for Alaric to get a new girlfriend.

Yibada recapped the sad ending of the couple's story in the season 7 finale, when Alaric broke up with Caroline. Deep inside, he was still in love with her but he was also aware that Caroline still had feelings for Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley). Instead of trying to make things work, Alaric advised Caroline to follow her heart, which she gladly accepted as she pursued Stefan.

The same season presented a great opportunity for the pair to be together when Caroline became the surrogate mother of Alaric's twin witch babies. According to the series' mythos, a vampire like Caroline is not capable of bearing a child. However, a powerful spell was used to transfer the twins to Caroline's womb. The twins became the reason for the two to become closer than ever, and even live together to raise their children.

Now that Caroline and Alaric's time as lovers is officially over, it is rumored that Alaric will meet a new love interest. This woman is none other than Seline (Kristen Gutoskie), the nanny he hired to look after the twins. Seline is an attractive young woman and it wouldn't be a surprise if love will blossom between the two.

Meanwhile, the Inquisitr speculated that even after Caroline's breakup, her romance with Stefan will not be going anywhere. Instead, it is possible that Caroline will find her way back to an old flame, Niklaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan). The two met each other after so many years in season 7, albeit only for a couple of minutes. It is rumored that the they will be reunited once again in season 8 as a couple.
