'The View' Co-Host Candace Cameron-Bure Defends Wash. High School Coach Who Prays on Field
Candace Cameron-Bure, co-host of "The View" talk show, recently spoke out in defense of a Washington state football coach who has continued to say a Christian prayer on the field following games despite demands for him to stop.
Cameron-Bure, an outspoken Christian who previously starred on "Full House" and now stars on ABC's "The View," spoke out in support of Joe Kennedy, the assistant football coach at Bremerton High School in Washington state who has continued to say a private Christian prayer on the field following his team's games despite calls from the Bremerton School District to stop.
On the Monday airing of "The View," Cameron-Bure was asked if she thought Kennedy's actions violated the U.S. Constitution on the separation of church and state, as the high school is a public high school receiving government funds.
"No," Cameron-Bure replied, adding, "because in our Constitution, separation of church and state, does not mean that we cannot pray publicly. It actually guarantees our free exercise of religion so that, if it is voluntary, we are allowed to pray wherever we would like to."
When fellow co-host Raven Symoné asked why they have replaced prayer with a moment of silence in public schools, Cameron-Bure replied "I don't know, but I wish they wouldn't have."
"If people would actually put more effort into prayer than to fight prayer, you would see a whole difference in this country to see the power of prayer," Cameron-Bure added.
