'The Walking Dead' Season 5 Finale Plot Recap: Rick Kills Pete on Deanna's Order; New Group of Villains Emerges
Rick (Andrew Lincoln) finally got to execute Pete, the abusive husband of Jessie (Alexandra Breckenridge), after he unexpectedly received the order to do so by Alexandria Safe Zone leader Deanna (Tovah Feldshuh) in the Season 5 finale of "The Walking Dead" on Sunday on AMC.
Episode 16 titled "Conquer" was also capped by the return of Morgan (Lennie James), a Season 1 character, in spectacular fashion and the introduction of new group of villains called the Wolves.
The opening scenes saw Morgan finding two members of the Wolves gang with the letter "W" engraved on their foreheads. The two seemingly deranged men tried to kill him and take his belongings, but Morgan managed to knock them out and leave them unconscious in their car.
He then accidentally met Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Aaron (Ross Marquand) after saving them from a trap set up by the Wolves in a food truck convoy. Morgan learned from Daryl and Aaron knew where Rick was and he followed them to the safe zone.
Back at the Alexandria Safe Zone, Rick was confronted by Michonne (Danai Gurira) and Carol (Melissa McBride). Carol pretended that she did not know where Rick got the gun he pulled on Pete even as he gave more details about his plan to take over the community.
Michonne, however, did not agree with Rick's plans but said whatever he does she would be there to back him up.
As Rick left the house where he was staying, he found that Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) had left the gate to the safe zone open and a number of walkers attacked him. As Rick was fighting off the walkers, members of the safe zone were meeting and deciding what to do with Rick and whether to exile him following his outburst in last week's episode.
Glenn (Steven Yeun), meanwhile, had a faceoff with Nicholas (Michael Traynor) after the latter followed him into the woods and shot him. Despite being shot and left for dead, Glenn managed to kill a group of walkers. Then he caught up with Nicholas, beat him and took his gun from him. However, Glenn could not bear to kill him and ended up helping him get back to the safe zone.
After killing a pack of walkers, Rick arrived at the meeting carrying a walker as a prop to describe how he managed to keep the community safe by killing the walkers that entered through the gate.
Pete (Corey Brill) showed up and tried to kill him with Michonne's sword but killed Deanna's husband Reg (Steve Coulter) instead. At a point when Deanna was about to order Rick's exile from the community, she suddenly and completely changed her mind. Instead, she gave Rick the authority to decide who lives and dies within the community. This included the order for him to kill Pete.
Rick did as told just as Morgan arrived to witness the shocking scene.
Still suffering from depression after her boyfriend Bob's savage death, Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) turned to Father Gabriel for comfort, but the latter blamed himself instead for everyone's deaths. Then Gabriel begged Sasha to kill him. Maggie came and Gabriel again confessed that everyone died because of him. The three wound up praying together.
