'The Walking Dead' Season 5 Spoilers, Episode 9 Recap: Major Character Dies After Bite From Walker

An emotion-filled and action-packed episode marked the return of "The Walking Dead" on Sunday at 9/8c on AMC after its mid-season break.

Episode 9 of Season 5 titled "What Happened and What's Going On" saw the death of a major character, Tyrese (played by Chad Coleman), after he was bitten by a walker.

The episode started with the gang outside the safe zone in Richmond, Virginia, as they tried to reunite Noah with his family who they thought still lived in a safe and gated community.

However, as Rick (Andrew Lincoln), Tyreese, Noah (Tyler James Williams), Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) entered the community it became evident that it had been overrun by walkers and that some of them were still lurking around.

As Noah broke down with grief, Rick took the rest of the gang to look for supplies in the houses. Tyreese and Noah stayed behind to talk about the loss of his family. Noah rushed inside his old house where he found his mother's body with a gunshot wound on her head. Tyreese followed Noah inside the house where he noticed that there was a walker trapped behind a door. He ignored the walker and went about looking at photographs of Noah's twin brothers, one of whom was lying on the bed.

Suddenly a walker sprang and bit Tyreese. Noah killed the walker and then ran off to get Rick and the others for help. Tyreese started hallucinating about dead people including Beth, Bob and even the Governor. Another walker attacked Tyreese but he managed to fight back, killing his attacker.

Tyreese started hallucinating once again about people who he had met and the Termite who he claimed to have killed in the shack. He then awoke to find that Rick and Michonne had chopped of his arm where he was bit in an attempt to save him. They carried him out of the house and, after battling walkers, managed to get him to a car. They sped towards the place where Carol (Melissa McBride) and the rest of the gang were waiting for them. However, Tyreese died on the way and they had to prevent him from becoming a walker. The episode ended with the survivors breaking down during his funeral.
