'The Walking Dead' season 7, episode 8 spoilers, plot news: Fall finale hints of terrible things to happen in Alexandria

Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan in "The Walking Dead" season 7 promo still | AMC

There can be a lot to be said about the current season of "The Walking Dead." While it started with a gritty and traumatic premiere, it also has episodes that just did not bode with casual viewers and even die-hard fans of the show. And now that the installment is closing in on its midseason finale, it appears that something pivotal can be expected moving forward, like probably another death again.

At this point, there is no denying that there are a couple of people who can follow Abraham's (Michael Cudlitz) and Glenn's (Steven Yeun) fates in the season primer. But regardless of who that person might be, the more pressing questions are: Shall Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) increase his body count? How will Rick and the rest of the Alexandrians react and cope with another blow?

Josh McDermitt, who plays Eugene in the post-apocalyptic series, during his guesting stint in Entertainment Weekly Morning Live hinted that an all-out war might take place in Alexandria. What is interesting in this scenario is that it seems like the battle will be starting with Rick (Andrew Lincoln) not in the territory as he goes on a supply run with Aaron (Ross Marquand). And if the look on his face in the promo clip for the episode is any indication, the team leader looks baffled and speechless, almost like the same one he pulled when Negan surprisingly swatted Glenn with Lucille.

"We certainly end the midseason with a bang. [...] The way the last episode ended, with [Negan] holding baby Judith, is pretty disgusting, and we're gonna pick up shortly after that and see what goes down," the 38-year-old actor spilled. "You know, Rick right now is not in Alexandria. He's off on a supply run or something with Aaron, so we're gonna see more of that and what happens there. And hopefully, he can make it back to Alexandria in time to see Negan basically becoming the adoptive father to baby Judith and Carl. And everything is going to go down in Alexandria."

In most parts of the season, Rick decided to bow down to the Saviors' leader after what he and his team have gone through on that fateful night. That being said, some of his squad members are not too happy about his decision to bend over Negan's will. Fans know that Carl (Chandler Riggs), out of all people, has shown incredible courage in pointing a gun at his face and even rallied a one-man strike to the Sanctuary. And with him somehow taking the leadership role, it can be assumed that some of the others will have the strength to come forward and say enough is enough.
