'The Walking Dead' season 7 spoilers: Maggie to lead Hilltop Colony; Morse code theory addressed
She was on the brink of death in the premiere of "The Walking Dead" season 7, but Maggie (Lauren Cohan) could rise to become one of the leaders in the post-zombie apocalypse world.
"The Walking Dead" fans haven't seen much of Glenn Rhee's (Steven Yeun) widow since he was savagely killed by Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) in the season 7 premiere. While Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) lied to the Saviors in the previous episode, telling them that Maggie is dead, she is actually at the Hilltop Colony getting medical attention for the pregnancy complications that ailed her at the beginning of the season. She was accompanied by Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) and is being treated by Dr. Carson (R. Keith Harris), the obstetrician who was introduced in season 6.
Viewers will learn of Maggie's present condition in Sunday's episode, titled "Go Getters." In the episode, "The Walking Dead" fans will see how Maggie deals with the agreement she made with Gregory (Xander Berkeley) in the previous season. As fans recall, she made a pact with the Hilltop Colony leader to take out the Saviors in exchange for half of the colony's supplies. However, Xander didn't inform Maggie and her group about just how dangerous and powerful the Saviors are, which led to their capture and the deaths of Glenn and Abraham (Michael Cudlitz).
In her upcoming dealings with Xander, Maggie may just be able to summon the strength to oust him and become the new leader of the Hilltop Colony. If this happens, the colony could merge with Alexandria in the fight against Negan and the Saviors.
As for Maggie's unborn child, TV Guide suggests that fans can expect the baby to be born in perfect health. Because "The Walking Dead" has already presented two particularly brutal deaths this season, killing Maggie's child as well may be overkill.
Meanwhile, "The Walking Dead" showrunner Scott Gimple has acknowledged the recent fan theory about the supposed secret communication between Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Rick (Andrew Lincoln). According to the theory, Daryl, who was unable to speak to Rick during his visit to Alexandria, used Morse code and blinking to convey the location of the Sanctuary.
"I heard about this on set yesterday," Gimple told ComicBook.com. "I would like to live in a world where Daryl Dixon residuously learns Morse code and knows that Rick has an intimate knowledge of Morse code, as well, and that they have practiced this with blinks. I would love that," he added.
"The Walking Dead" season 7 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. EST on AMC.
