'This Is Us' season 1 episode 13 spoilers: Dreams are fulfilled and relationships are mended in 'Three Sentences'
The Big Three are back on the center stage in the next episode of "This Is Us."
After the previous episode focused a full hour on the day the Pearson triplets were brought together by nature and fate, NBC's hit dramedy series brings its narrative back to the present to check in on The Big Three's adult lives and how well, or how badly, they are faring through.
Titled "Three Sentences," the episode finds Randall (Sterling K. Brown) struggling to make time for his dying biological father, William (Ron Cephas Jones), amidst an escalating office drama. While he is glad that his father has found love in the few remaining days of his life, he would still like to have his own alone time with his old man before his cancer snatches him away.
The trailer for the next episode gives more context to this by revealing that William has something that he has always wanted to do. And knowing how much of a loving, dutiful son Randall is, it seems that William will finally be able to tick off that one important thing from his bucket list. What could this one thing be, and how will Randall help fulfill it? How much more time does Randall have with his biological father, and how will William's eventual passing affect his son in the long run?
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, actress Mandy Moore, who plays the Pearson matriarch, Rebecca, hinted at something happening in the latter part of the season that may finally bridge the gap between mother and son. Will this have something to do with William's deteriorating health? Will the grief be too big to handle that Randall finally decides to reach out to his mother and seek her advice? Moore herself is in the shadows as to what's next for Rebecca and Randall and if they will ever reconcile before the season ends.
"If I'm honest with you, at this point in time we haven't addressed it yet," Moore said.
The next episode will also see Kevin (Justin Hartley) making a major romantic decision after an enlightening talk with potential brother-in-law Toby (Chris Sullivan). But trouble may be brewing for Toby's own romantic life when Kate (Chrissy Metz) meets a new guy while preparing herself for her gastric bypass surgery.
On the other hand, the flashback sequences will deal with Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca's attempt to plan three separate parties for The Big Three's 10th birthday, while the Pearson patriarch wonders if they should maybe try to have another child.
"This Is Us," which has just been renewed for two more seasons, airs every Tuesday at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
