'This Is Us' season 1 episode 9 spoilers: Adult Randall to have heart-to-heart with Jack?

This week's episode of NBC's hit family drama "This Is Us" saw the beginnings and what could have been the end of a long-standing Thanksgiving tradition for the Pearson family. Next week, the Big Three will be taking a trip to find reprieve and hopefully some answers to the current issues they are facing.

In the episode titled "The Trip," Kate (Chrissy Metz), Kevin (Justin Hartley) and Randall (Sterling K. Brown) escape away to their family cabin following a disastrous Thanksgiving dinner, hoping to find comfort in the memories of their childhood. This may perhaps be the first time in a very long time that they will be together on their own to support each other in their personal ordeals like siblings are wont to do.

While there, Randall gets an unexpected visit from his late adoptive father Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) by way of a vision. This will somehow provide him with the comfort and explanation he needs to put things in perspective, move past his anger, and maybe try and learn to forgive his mother, Rebecca (Mandy Moore) for not telling him about his biological father, William (Ron Cephas Jones) sooner.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, series creator Dan Fogelman revealed that most of Randall's anger would be focused on his mother with whom he had always shared a special bond. Being betrayed by the person he trusted the most cut him deep and it might take a while for him to recover.

"I think anger comes with processing," Fogelman said. "Right now is disbelief and emotion in all the visceral, weird, ugly ways," he added.

Fogelman also shared that next week's episode will open with a confrontation between Randall and William, and that the level of anger he has for his biological father pales to the amount of rage he feels towards his adoptive mother. "Everybody else is complicit," he continued.

Meanwhile, Kevin's colleague Olivia (Janet Montgomery) will tell Kate a harsh truth that could drive a wedge between the twins. In the past, a nine-year-old Randall (Lonnie Chavis) will give Rebecca and Jack something to worry about when he expresses interest to search for his birth parents for the first time.
