'This Is Us' season 1 news: EP, Justin Hartley hint at upcoming Kevin twist
Following the big reveal about Jack's (Milo Ventimiglia) fate, "This Is Us" season 1 may be about to unveil another major twist involving his son Kevin (Justin Hartley).
In the latest episode of the new NBC drama, viewers found Jack filing away his dream of building his own construction company and taking the corporate route so that Randall (Lonnie Chavis) could attend an expensive school for gifted children. This played out as viewers learned that Kate (Chrissy Metz) has some deep regrets about her broken relationship with Rebecca (Mandy Moore), her mother. During the hour, it was also revealed that Jack had died "a long time ago."
"This Is Us" executive producer Ken Olin recently opened up to Entertainment Weekly about the episode, saying, "That's a thing that is so beautiful is like how in these episodes you think, Wait a minute, there's Kevin, who feels [neglected], for good reason... and then you come to this where it's like, 'Well, we do have to acknowledge that maybe he is different.'"
"But at the same time," he said, referencing Kevin's relationship with his family, "there's a price that's paid for that, and we're going to see that going forward. What it always comes back to, and what I love about this, is our characters are limited."
In a recent chat with Harper's Bazaar, Hartley spoke about his character and what's ahead for the Pearsons, saying that the episodes only get better and better. As for the next major twist, the actor only said, "Well, it's coming up, so I can't tell you."
Given Olin's comment, it's possible that the next episodes will focus on Kevin's limitations and may dig deeper into why Kevin has had a hard time coping with Jack's death and why, among the three siblings, it is he who seems to have had the most fractured relationship with Jack.
"This Is Us" season 1 airs on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
