'Thor: Ragnarok' premiere date, cast news, plot updates: Thor to have new love interest? Cate Blanchett talks about being Hela
Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is no longer tied to Natalie Portman's Jane Foster in the upcoming installment of "Thor," but the Norse god already has a new romantic interest that will be introduced in the film. Meanwhile, Cate Blanchet reveals a few things about her villainous character, Hela.
"Thor: Ragnarok" will be coming to theaters this November, and unfortunately, it reveals that Thor has broken up with Jane Foster. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hemsworth shared that Thor is enjoying being a lone wolf while exploring the universe and trying to keep it under control.
However, according to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, Thor will be meeting someone soon who is "near his equal," which is Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie.
"We wanted to pit him against a character who was much more his equal and in many ways his superior," Feige explained.
The connection that Valkyrie will have with Thor is her Asgardian heritage. Unfortunately, Valkyrie wants to "forget it all entirely," compared to Thor who is very devoted to it and who has royal blood.
Valkyrie will not be the only woman to appear in Thor's life in "Ragnarok." Blanchett's Hela will be presenting herself to Thor, although in a less favorable manner.
Blanchett describes her character as "the Goddess of Death," who was accidentally released from her prison where she stayed in for millennia. According to the actress, she read the comics of Hela to learn about the origin of her character.
However, Blanchett explained that none of the Marvel heroes have only one origin story, which she only found even more fascinating to explore.
Blanchett teased that her character can manifest weapons. "Her headdress can be weapons. She can manifest weapons out of different parts of her body. I won't tell you which — I'll leave that hanging," the actress said.
"Thor: Ragnarok" is set to hit theaters on Nov. 3.
