'Thor: Ragnarok' release date, news: Thor and Hulk are going to Sakaar
People who have been following the development of "Thor: Ragnarok" already know that the film will feature a lot of plot elements from the "Planet Hulk" storyline from the comics. Well, looks like the film isn't just going to be based on that storyline, "Thor: Ragnarok" will also feature the actual "Planet Hulk" — Sakaar.
In an interview with Total Film magazine (via MCUExchange), director Taika Waititi confirmed that Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) would be heading to Sakaar in the film.
"Sakaar was just an insane, far-off, futuristic place which was the biggest shift for the film and these characters ... I was really excited when Kevin [Feige] and the rest of Marvel jumped on board with the idea to use [Jack] Kirby as a big influence in the design of the film. What's really hard is staying authentic."
If they are borrowing some plot elements from "Planet Hulk," why not feature the planet the story is set in, right? For months now, Waititi has been hinting that some characters from the comic book storyline would appear in the film. Miek's appearance has been confirmed, and the director also hinted that the rock-like creature Korg may appear as well.
MCUExchange's Jeremiah Peace has speculated that instead of the Red King, the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum) will serve as the planet's ruler in "Thor: Ragnarok." He also thinks that Caeira the Oldstrong may also appear in the film.
It is assumed that Hulk has been on the Sakaar for some time now since he went missing at the end of "Avengers: Age of Ultron." So, he's probably been on the planet for years now. It is speculated that Grandmaster may pit Hulk against Thor in the film. Readers are advised to take this with a pinch of salt, though, since this hasn't been verified yet.
"Thor: Ragnarok" is scheduled to premiere on Nov. 3, 2017.
