Tim Tebow news 2017: Tebow didn't get an invite to Mets spring training
Tim Tebow has been working hard on his game since he decided to pursue a career in baseball. No one can question his drive to succeed. Of course, every player's goal is to reach the big leagues, however, it's a little difficult to make the dream a reality because of the stiff competition.
Right now, Tebow will have to wait for his chance because he wasn't included in the list of minor leaguers invited by the New York Mets for spring training. This is just a minor setback, but it's nice to know that a lot of people want to see him get an invite to camp. Just take a look at the responses to the announcement they tweeted.
Tebow might not have gotten an invite, but Mets general manager Sandy Alderson told ESPN's Adam Rubin that the former Heisman Trophy winner would still see some action in some of their Grapefruit League games while he's on loan.
Alderson said that there's no reason to sign Tebow to a major-league camp right now "except for advertising purposes." He explained that it would be better to put the former National Football League (NFL) player in a situation where he has a chance of succeeding.
Mets manager Terry Collins said Tebow would have been a welcome addition to the team if he had been invited to spring training. "If they decide to send him to camp, we'll get him better. I can tell you, I certainly hope you will see Tim Tebow in some of our games," he told ESPN.
Alderson said he understood where Collins was coming from. "I think the fact that Terry said he would be welcome is indicative of sort of the impact he's had on the organization from a personal standpoint as much as a professional one," he stated.
Many don't think Tebow can succeed in baseball. But in an interview with NY Daily News, Tebow reiterated that he does not regret his move to baseball, and he said he wanted to do something that would be a fun for him, and challenging as well. "That's why I chose to pick up a baseball bat," he said.
