According to his prayer posted on The National Day of Prayer website, the pastor believes that the general spiritual apathy that engulfs America today has led the nation to be co-conspirators with the evil forces that act to destroy society. He warnes that offending God may be disastrous for the country no matter who the elected president may be.

Evans told CBN News that there's no better time for prayer than now. "If there was ever a day when God's people needed to grab a hold of God and invite His manifest presence back into our midst, today is that day," he proclaimed.

"When you have that many people at the same time coming together to call on God about the same thing, then that creates a synergy and an awesome power of presence," Evans shared referring to the estimated 47,000 prayer gatherings that took place nationwide on Thursday.

"It's critical because we don't have solutions to the plethora of ills that our plaguing our nation on every single level," he warned, adding, "And politics is not going to, by itself, bring about the changes for right that we're desperately needing in our country."

Evans explained that the event's purpose was to call on people of all faiths across the country — although the central theme was focused on Jesus Christ — to not just pray but also repent and to acknowledge America's need for spiritual solutions.

The pastor also traced America's history by a Judeo-Christian worldview, stressing the importance of recognizing the lordship of Jesus Christ without apology in their prayers.

Evans is a frequent speaker at Bible conferences and seminars across the country. He also hosts a daily radio broadcast "The Alternative with Dr. Tony Evans," presides over his ministry The Urban Alternative, and serves as chaplain for National Basketball Association's (NBA) Dallas Mavericks.
