"Tokyo Ghoul" is a fantasy manga penned by Japanese manga artist Sui Ishida. The manga's popularity brought about the release of its anime adaptation back in July 2014. Its first two seasons were a massive success such that fans are eager to know if and when a third season of the anime would be released.

Previous reports indicated that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 was set to come out sometime this year. There were reported speculations that the anime series will return in winter 2016. However, latest reports, such as that from Game N Guide, now suggest that season 3 of the anime will be indefinitely delayed.

According to Master Herald, despite the rumors that the third season might be canceled for good, the anime is targeted to return early next year. It has been speculated that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 will be ready by March 2017.

The reasons for the delay stem from rumored issues and hindrances within the production team. A good amount of the episodes is reportedly ready for release, but it is not enough to make up an entire season. Some also believe that another reason for the delay is Ishida's possible involvement with another anime series, "Hunter X Hunter." There are also rumors which suggest that Studio Pierrot, the anime's original showrunner, has sold its rights to Madhouse, Inc.

As for the possible plot of season 3, reports suggest that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 will feature a darker plot and that the series may not be appropriate for a younger audience. It is also rumored that Kaneki will transform into a complete Kakuja and that he will also face an entirely new villain.

Although there is no official announcement yet about its exact release date, it is highly likely that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 will happen. Fans of the manga and the anime series will just have to keep waiting patiently until the developers behind the upcoming third season are ready for its launch.
