'True Detective' season 3 renewal update: 'Ball's not advanced' on series comeback yet
Matthew McConaughey recently provided an update on "True Detective" season 3, in which he expressed interest in starring in.
The actor, who was part of the critically acclaimed first season of the crime drama anthology, revealed that as far as development goes of the show's comeback, it looks like there has been significant progress on that front yet.
McConaughey said in his appearance at "The Rich Eisen Show" that he gets asked "all the time" about "True Detective" season 3 all the time, if he will be in it and when it will come out.
"The ball's not advanced at all," he said of the development of the series, whose second season starring Rachel McAdams, Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch was poorly received.
"I've talked to the creator Nic Pizzolatto who's taking a little break from it. If that thing was written well and it came up again, I wouldn't hesitate for a second," he went on to say.
From McConaughey's remarks, "True Detective" season 3 is not moving forward yet. The last time they spoke about it was last month, when HBO president of programming Casey Bloys briefly touched on it during an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
"They're thinking about ideas, and when they find something, that's when I'll hear from them," the HBO executive said relating to the people leading the development.
Back in July, he said that "True Detective" is "not dead" and that they are looking for a new writer as Pizzolato will be busy with other projects for HBO. Instead, the creator of the series will supervise the one who boards the ship for the writing duties.
As for McConaughey, he said that he will be part of "True Detective" season 3 if it is good. A few months back, he said he missed playing his season 1 character, Rustin Cohle.
It is unknown if he could play the same part as there is no update on the show yet and that the anthology format will make it difficult to make a character return.
