Trump Threatens 'Multi-Million Dollar' Lawsuit For Attack Ads
2016 presidential hopeful Donald Trump has threatened to sue over recent political advertisements he describes as attack advertisements carried out by a conservative group.
Trump's political camp reportedly delivered a cease and desist letter to the conservative group Club for Growth this week following a string of attack ads against the real estate mogul that suggest Trump supports higher taxes and the Affordable Care Act.
Trump suggested in an email to CNN this week that Club for Growth is carrying out the attack advertisements because the real estate mogul refused to donate to their group.
"I am not surprised the dishonest, irrelevant and totally failing Club for Growth has resorted to attacking the definitive front runner, especially after I refused to contribute to their pathetic group. We will be releasing my current tax proposal, which is a major decrease in taxes, in the next week and will continue to expose the two faced hypocrisy of the Club for Growth and the problems groups like this perpetuate within a broken Washington, D.C.," Trump told CNN in a statement.
According to The Hill, the letter, written by Trump's legal counsel, demanded that the group halt the airing of the attack ads immediately.
"In the interest of avoiding what will certainly be a costly litigation process, we are prepared to offer you the one-time opportunity to rectify this matter by providing us with your prompt written assurances that (i) you have stopped running the Attack Ads; and (ii) you will not generate or disseminate any misleading or inaccurate information or make any factually baseless accusations... with respect to my client at any point in the future," the letter read.
