UFC news 2017: UFC welterweight champ Tyron Woodley to rematch Stephen Thompson at UFC 209

The fight between Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and title contender Stephen Thompson at UFC 205 was too hard to call, and a majority draw was declared. Woodley retained the belt but many fight fans believe that Thompson deserves a rematch because of how close the fight was contested. It took some time for the UFC to decide what to do next, but looks like there's  going to be a rematch.

Woodley made the announcement on his "The Morning Wood Show with Deez Nuts" podcast, and the fight would be on March 4, at UFC 209.

A few days ago, Woodley said he doesn't think Thompson deserved an immediate rematch, but he has changed his mind since, and he can't wait to get his hands on Thompson.

"He got under my skin so much that I'm just going to go ahead and fight the dude. He got under my skin that bad where I don't even care about the ration and the money and what fight makes the most sense. You need to be careful what you ask for. 'Wonderboy,' if you want it, come get it," he said during the podcast (transcribed by MMA Junkie).

The fight might have been scored a majority draw, but Woodley believes that he did enough to win. "What ever happened to the phrase, 'You have to beat the champion'? Is that a lost art?" he said.

Well, the judges obviously didn't see it that way. Thompson has been campaigning for a rematch ever since their first fight ended, and now he will finally get another crack at Woodley and his welterweight belt.

A potential superfight between Woodley and UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping will have to wait. Woodley admitted that a fight between them almost happened before things stalled. That bout can still happen, but Woodley will have to get past Thompson first before he can dream of fighting Bisping.
