The USA come into today's game in good form having won their last three friendlies. However, this is where the real business gets started, and they will be hoping to put on a top performance and get a result here in Santa Clara tonight.

There appears to be renewed optimism about the USA camp right now. After a few years where performances were slightly frustrating and a bit lackluster, they have emerged of late with much more urgency and purpose in their play.

That has been great to see, and the turnaround in their performances also seems to have come with a change of formation, with things switched around to a 4-3-3 system in three of their past four matches. That has allowed Michael Bradley to thrive in his preferred position as a defensive midfielder, and that in turn has influenced the rest of the team to play with more freedom.

Their opposition today though will be no pushovers. Colombia have the likes of James Rodriguez, as well as Carlos Bacca and Juan Cuadrado in their ranks. If the USA allow them to get comfortable and confident in today's game it could spell disaster for Jurgen Klinsmann's men.

Klinsmann no doubt will be calling on his team to step up the intensity and ensure his team get in the faces of their opponents. One of the main tasks will be not to give them time on the ball and allow them to open up gaps with their slick passing game. They must make the Colombian playmakers rushed on the ball and keep up the intensity of their defensive game for all 90 minutes of tonight's game to ensure they get the result they want.

When it comes to attack, the USA will be hoping to use their aerial abilities to get an upper hand in tonight's game. The USA team is big and athletic and if the game is close as many expect it to be, then getting an advantage from set pieces could prove to be the difference between the teams.

Think Clint Dempsey, as well as Cameron and Brooks, and there are a number of aerial targets to hit on the cross.
