'Veep' season 6 air date news: Tony Hale teases on his character's journey in upcoming installment
What's next for Selina Meyer after her ouster from the White House? That, apparently, is what "Veep" season 6 will be all about. As to when the hit HBO series will be back on air is still undetermined.
When the fifth season of "Veep" ended, Selina (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) had to leave behind her dreams of becoming president, and even vice president, after a lady senator won the presidential elections. Now back to the civilian world, word is that Selina will not even enjoy the usual perks that former heads of state enjoy. So what will happen to her?
In a recent interview with TV Line, Tony Hale, who plays the role of Gary Walsh on the series, said Gary will be "like a fish out of water" at the start of the new season. Actually, he will not be by his lonesome in this predicament, as everyone associated with Selina during her time in the White House and even Selina herself will have a hard time adjusting to civilian life.
"It's kind of opening up a whole new world of 'What do these people do after the were president of the United States?'" Hale said. "It's like they don't know how to be themselves maybe."
Showrunner David Mandel previously told Bustle that in particular, Selina will have a hard time coping with life outside the White House, and even more so now that she feels she's become irrelevant. She's known to lack grace when it comes to accepting defeat, and the knowledge that some people think too lowly of her and think of her as inefficient might take a toll on her.
There's still no word as to "Veep" season 6's official premiere date. HBO Binge confirms that production for the sixth season of "Veep" will begin in October and urges fans to stalk the Twitter accounts of the show's cast members to get updates. Since HBO is currently focused on other shows like Divorce, Insecure, and the already-airing High Maintenance, the most probable air date for "Veep" is around Spring of 2017.
Even so, the show's director, Dale Stern, teased details of the upcoming installment in his interview with The Daily Caller. He said fans will enjoy Timothy Simmons' character, Jonah, as well as his staff, as they have a lot to offer in the next season. Stern did make it clear, though, that he's not aware of the overall theme of the upcoming season.
"I don't know what's planned for next season. You know, it's framed with certain ideas. It's a whole new world and a whole new beginning for the show. It's outrageous. It's hysterical. It's going to be very fun to work and play with it."
What fans should keep an eye out for the most, though, is Selina's impending breakdown. The character has been known for her lack of grace when it comes to facing defeat, so seeing her come to terms with the idea that she is no longer relevant would be rather interesting. Series showrunner David Mandel also told Bustle that Selina will find it difficult to handle the thought that some people think rather lowly of her.
