'Veronica Mars' revival news: Rob Thomas reveals plans for six-episode mini-series
A six-episode "Veronica Mars" revival could be underway, if series creator Rob Thomas will have his way.
During his appearance at the Television Critics Association winter press tour to promote the third season of his other show "iZombie," Thomas revealed that he and actress Kirsten Bell are considering to present a continuation of the fan-favorite noir mystery drama.
"Kristen and I both want to figure out some way we could do a six-episode Veronica Mars mystery," the series creator stated in the report from TVLine. "If I were a betting man, I bet that it will happen. I just don't know when it will be."
But the possibility of coming up with a "Veronica Mars" reboot could be delayed by Bell's new series from NBC called "The Good Place," as well as Thomas' next project for The CW, which will be a remake of the "Lost Boys."
According to Thomas, he and Bell should find the right schedule to do the "Veronica Mars" remake that will not coincide with the schedule of their current projects. "If those things weren't happening, we might be closer to a 'Veronica Mars [continuation]'. 'The Good Place,' I think, is going to be on NBC for a while. And if 'Lost Boys' goes, finding that window will be tricky. But we both want to do it," Thomas also said.
"Veronica Mars" was first aired in the now-defunct UPN network in September 2004, then transferred to the network's successor The CW for another two seasons until its cancellation in 2007.
Thomas came up with a film script for the show after its cancellation, but Warner Bros. opted not to produce the project during that time. To be able to come up with the funds to create the film, Thomas and Bell launched a Kickstarter campaign to gather at least $2 million dollars. The goal has been met, and the film was released on March 2014.
