'Watch Dogs 2' in Progress after First Instalment of Ubisoft Game Fails to Impress Critics
One of the programmers who developed the initial 'Watch Dogs" game recently revealed on his LinkedIn profile that "Watch Dogs 2" is in the making.
This apparently unintended disclosure on LinkedIn was quickly grabbed and dissected in detail by various gaming sites. The LinkedIn profile belongs to Julien Risse who works for Ubisoft in its Paris office. In his profile, Risse initially stated that he has been involved in the development of "Watch Dogs" and its DLC "Bad Blood" and is currently working on "Watch Dogs 2."
After Risse's LinkedIn profile was seen and reported, he modified it to remove the referral to "Watch Dogs 2," but cached versions of the page are still available on the Internet.
The news that the next instalment of the game is under development was not a surprise to many because Ubisoft has previously stated that it wants the game to develop into a franchise.
However, the first instalment of the game was received with tepid reviews. This apparently prompted Ubisoft to put the sequel on the back burner.
Now it seems the developer is busy working on the game again although there is still no official announcement about it.
Last year Ubisoft did provide some vague details about "Watch Dogs 2," including the information that the lead character Aiden Pearce from the first instalment would not be featured in the sequel. The disclosure came from Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot.
This appeared to be the company's acknowledgment of the fans' criticism that Pearce's character lacks dynamism.
Later, Lionel Raynaud, the vice president of Ubisoft Montreal, said the second instalment of the game would have to be fixed and refined substantially.
Earlier this year, Jonathan Morin, a developer on the game, said Ubisoft is taking more risks in the next instalment of the game. He admitted that "Watch Dogs" has a number of flaws and was nowhere near perfect.
