'Wayward Pines' season 3 news: fans dig rumored 'Stranger Things' crossover as renewal still looms
With 2016 already coming to a close, "Wayward Pines" fans are still on the lookout as to whether FOX will order another season of the mystery science fiction show or not. Recent rumors sound promising and should the cable network take the plunge in terms of another season, it seems like the fans have covered all the bases in terms of the narrative that they want to tread.
In the world of technology, fanfictions and crossovers, loyal followers of the series have brought their ideas online to propose an interesting plot twist for a supposed third year of the show. As it turns out, a possible link between "Wayward Pines" and "Stranger Things" has been propagated online and surprisingly, a lot of couch potatoes are digging the idea.
Netflix's latest original hit for the year has quickly elevated from a freshman series to become a cult favorite with a renewed season 2 already on the way. And given that both properties tread the mysterious, science fiction-esque genre, a narrative tie-up may not be that difficult to concoct. Moreover, as they also tread similar strange disappearance scares, a massive back and forth time will be interesting to tackle with the reveal that some characters are connected in some sort of way.
Then again, like most crossovers, especially with properties from different copyright holders and distributors, it will be a tumultuous production should this idea receive the green light — which is why fans are advised to not be too attached to the idea and boarding the hype train.
"Wayward Pines" was originally pitched to be a three-season arc and with one more outing still in the can, it is interesting to know whether FOX will push forward with production or not. It can be remembered that while the debut iteration of the show received decent ratings, its succeeding one suffered a backlash somehow leaving a bad connotation for the series.
"I definitely think there could be a Season 3," FOX co-chairman and CEO Dana Walden said last summer and was seemingly excited by the idea of ordering another serving of "Wayward Pines." Furthermore, the TV exec also noted that at that point, they are already talking about it with the producers "have a really compelling for Season 3."
