'Westworld' season 2 news, updates: Luke Hemsworth talks about possible release date; storyline to explore different 'world' parks?
HBO's sci-fi drama "Westworld" took a long time before it was completed, but fans eventually realized that it's worth the wait. However, it seems that the much-anticipated second season won't be airing anytime soon.
Luke Hemsworth, who plays Westworld's head of security Ashley Stubbs, recently talked about the show's possible return date, and it might not be good news for some fans. The actor said that a 2017 release is might be far from reach because of the creative team needs more time to finish up the scripts.
"They are trying to get it right. They don't want to go in doing what they were doing last time where they were under the cosh the whole time," he explained. "They want to go in with a clear plan – A to Z and everything in between – at least have drafts in place," he added.
Although details about season 2 are still being kept under wraps, there are speculations that the upcoming storyline will explore other "world" parks. Most of the first season was set in the Westworld theme park or in the area's backend. However, the end of the series saw Maeve and her group go to a part of the backend that appeared to introduce Samurai soldiers — implying there are more locations created after Westworld.
While it's unclear which of the other parts could be featured next season, the creative team has confirmed that the Golden Globe-nominated show won't be keeping the story within the confines of Westworld forever. In an interview, series creator Jonathan Nolan revealed that "Westworld" is open to the possibility of delving into other worlds that were a part of the original 1973 cult-classic.
"For Lisa and myself, with this show, we never had any intention of staying in one place. We don't want to shoot on the same sets for 10 years. We want to blow the sets up and move on to another piece of the story," Nolan said.
HBO has yet to announce a premiere date for "Westworld" season 2.
