'Wildflower' film tackles sexual abuse, depression and murder

"Wildflower," a Christian psychological thriller film, undertakes bold topics that are usually not discussed in churches including sexual abuse, depression, and murder.

Shari Rigby, who starred in "October Baby" and "The Young and the Restless," is one of the cast members of the movie. She thinks that the issues touched in the film are what God wants people to talk about — the "dark times" that people go through.

Wildflower is written and directed by Nicholas DiBella, the same person who brought "King's Faith". The movie shows an art student trying to discover clues about a girl that has gone missing mysteriously. During her search, she begins to be confronted by her past, which has been hidden for years.

The film was shot around Rochester, New York. Other stars include Nathalia Ramos, who starred in ABC Family's "Switched at Birth" and Nickelodeon's "House of Anubis;" and Cody Longo, who starred in "Piranha 3D" and "Not Today".

Rigby told The Christian Post that she is excited about the movie and she loves playing the part of the art student's mother.

Wildflower talks about sexual abuse, depression and murder. These issues are rarely dealt with in the church. This is one thing that makes the movie extra special, Rigby said, because such issues are now being discussed.

She said, ""So often we forget that even in the darkest of times, most negative of times, anything that we've gone through, that it has some of the most powerful positive impact. Not only on our own life but on others because we can honestly step up and say, 'That's something I went through, I faced that.'"

"It's going to be for people that are struggling with their faith," Rigby also said in an interview with Hope Filled Media. "I hope that I get to keep telling those stories. There are people out there that just need to know that there is true freedom," she added.
