'Winds of Winter' release date news update: Martin to cancel book?

Contrary to previous reports about the launch of "The Winds of Winter," which is expected to drop anytime soon, recent reports claimed that the book will no longer push through with publishing to the results of 2016 U.S. election.

Although this hasn't been confirmed, rumor has it that author George R.R. Martin intends to cancel the book due to the loss of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Again, the rumor mill churned claims suggesting that "The Winds of Winter" will not be delayed, but it will be canceled.

Martin is a known supporter of Clinton and her loss during the recent election reportedly urged the author to drop the sixth book in his series. The author was even spotted with Clinton during her campaign in New Mexico.

Previous rumors suggested that Martin had finished the book, which is now in the editing phase, and that it is going to be launched soon. However, Martin's latest blog post, wherein he commented and compared both the candidates' campaigns, have led people to believe otherwise.

"Trump's ads against Hillary are made of assertion, innuendo and name-calling, but there's no substance to them," he wrote on his blog. "Clinton's ads just show Trump being Trump," he continued.

Although the author talked about Trump and Clinton's advocacies, Martin has not explicitly expressed his desire to cancel the book in his blog post.

As usual, fans can expect the author to reveal updates about the "A Song of Ice and Fire" sequel on his blog. Since the author has yet to confirm these rumors, fans of the franchise should treat the recent reports as speculation until proven otherwise.

Watch out for more updates on "The Winds of Winter."
