WWE rumors: AJ Styles to defend title against John Cena and Dean Ambrose; The Phenomenal expected to win?
AJ Styles was officially crowned the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) World Champion after defeating Dean Ambrose at Backlash. At No Mercy, The Phenomenal will defend his title.
Prior to Backlash, Styles was expected to win as this will not only finally put the superstar where he should have been a long time ago, but will also make way to rekindle his rivalry with John Cena.
This is exactly what was confirmed in the recent Smackdown Live, where Styles was confronted by his rival and vowed to "take back" what he had for 15 times – the WWE World Championship.
Cena wants to make history and become a 16-time champion, an achievement only the legendary Ric Flair also known as The Nature Boy has managed to pull off.
Ambrose then shows up and asks for a rematch as he feels that The Phenomenal cheated his way into winning the belt (Styles hit with a low blow).
In the process, he also called out Cena for being a "lazy part-timer." This led Shane McMahon to organize a Triple Threat match at No Mercy.
Styles is expected to keep the title while there are also talks that although he is the one on top now, Cena will still get the last laugh, as he always does in most of his feuds.
With his win, Styles is officially The Face that Runs the Place and many fans hope that it will be that way for a while. With two wins over Cena now on his resume, it is hard to imagine Styles losing the title immediately.
The Phenomenal also appears to be doing a good job as a champion so far. Forbes says that during his reign as champion, Ambrose failed to connect with fans. Styles, however, had the arena ecstatic over his victory.
WWE No Mercy will be held on Oct. 9.
