In the world of professional wrestling, things are bound to change due to unforeseen instances.

And it was most evident recently in the World Wrestling Entertainment's (WWE) recently-concluded pay-per-view event, SummerSlam 2016.

Held in New York, it was a very successful evening that saw many intriguing battles and impressive storylines.

One of the biggest fights of the night was the match-up between the WWE veteran, Seth Rollins, and the relatively new-comer, Finn Balor.

It was an intense battle, and it was exciting, but the conclusion was one of the best moments in the evening, with Balor beating Rollins cleanly and pinning him to be the first-ever Universal Champion of Monday Night Raw.

However, it has been recently revealed that it was not originally what the storyline should be, and Balor was not supposed to be fighting Rollins for the title.

According to Wrestling Inc, Balor was still slated to have his pay-per-view debut at SummerSlam, but it was not supposed to be against Rollins.

Originally, a feud with Chris Jericho was in the works for Balor and that feud would have been settled in Barclays.

Meanwhile, Rollins was still set to battle for the title but originally had Roman Reigns as his foe for the Universal Championship.

Unfortunately for Reigns, he was slapped with a 30-day suspension that resulted in the company needing to change the direction it had for the title.

With Reigns out, Balor was immediately shoved into the spotlight to fight for one of the biggest prizes of the night.

It turned out to be one of the better things about the event, with the fans happy that Balor was given the push everyone wanted, with the superstar delivering on the promise.

However, as fate would have it, Balor needed to relinquish the title immediately after a shoulder injury forced him out of action.

Now, the WWE will have to determine where they would place Balor when he returns; if he will be immediately put in the title picture, or place him back with Jericho to help strengthen his brand.
