WWE superstars sound off on McGregor's insult to the industry
Normally, the fan base who support the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) are the same ones who enjoy the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
The difference between the two sports is that one is entertainment while the other is mixed martial arts. However, the physicality and intensity are the same for both avenues.
Although, lines have been drawn following UFC superstar Conor McGregor's comments on those who are part of the WWE.
McGregor, who is one of the most entertaining fighters in the UFC, was asked if he could have a career in the WWE. The MMA champion answered negatively, throwing shade to the wrestling industry.
He said: "I have thought about it. For the most part, I think these guys are [expletives], to be honest. They're messed up [expletives], if you ask me."
McGregor went on to comment about WWE stars who have set foot in the octagon, saying: "Fair play to Brock [Lesnar]; he got in and fought, but at the end of the day, he was juiced up to the [expletive] eyeballs. How can I respect that? The other guy [CM Punk] hasn't fought yet, so I don't know about him yet."
Obviously, this didn't sit well with the fans and superstars of the WWE and MMA Junkie reported that McGregor eventually pulled back on his statement, saying on his Twitter page: "I didn't mean no disrespect to the @wwe fans. What I meant to say was that I'd slap the head off your entire roster. And twice on Sunday's."
After McGregor posted his statement, the stars of the WWE also shared their thoughts on the matter, with WWE superstar Chris Jericho claiming that his fights in the company are real and that he would embarrass McGregor in a fight.
Roman Reigns also weighed in on the matter, pointing out McGregor's size compared to him.
Finally, the Irish community in the WWE also gave their opinions, with Sheamus comparing McGregor to a Jack Russell terrier who is all bark and no bite.
On the other hand, Becky Lynch pointed out that she has already beaten McGregor as she was announced as the Best Sports Person in the 98FM Best of Dublin awards.
