Xbox Games With Gold latest news: January 2017 lineup includes 'Killer Instinct,' 'Rayman Origins'

Microsoft recently announced the Xbox Games With Gold lineup for January 2017, revealing the first game freebies for the coming new year.

As Microsoft has always done in the past, Xbox Live Gold members will be getting access to four free games this January 2017. Two games will be for the Xbox One while the remaining two will be games for the Xbox 360.

According to Polygon, Xbox One owners with Live Gold subscriptions will be able to download Neocore Games' "World of Van Helsing: Deathtrap" and the Ultra Edition of Iron Galaxy Studios' "Killer Instinct Season 2." Originally priced at $19.99, "World of Van Helsing: Deathtrap" will be downloadable for free all month long in January. "Killer Instinct Season 2," originally priced at $39.99, will be made available for Live Gold subscribers from Jan. 16 until Feb. 15, 2017.

Xbox 360 users with Gold subscriptions will be able to download Double Fine's adventure game "The Cave," with a regular price of $14.00, for free from Jan. 1–15. The Classic Ubisoft Montpellier platformer "Rayman Origins," priced at $14.00, will be downloadable from Jan. 16–31. Both games are playable on Xbox 360 and the Xbox One, thanks to Microsoft's backward compatibility feature.

It can be recalled that Games With Gold was first launched back in the summer of 2013. It offers free games every month to those who avail the Xbox Live Gold subscription. The Gold subscription costs $10 per month or $60 per year. Aside from the monthly free game releases, subscribers also get to enjoy multiplayer capabilities and exclusive discounts in Xbox stores.

Meanwhile, as the December edition of the Xbox Games With Gold is still ongoing, subscribers can still download games such as "Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition" and "Outlast" for the Xbox One, and "Burnout Paradise" for the Xbox 360 for free.
