Xbox Project Scorpio release date, price rumors, news: Upcoming Xbox to be 'the most powerful console ever?'
The game just got even bigger in the competitive arena of gaming consoles.
The reign of Sony's newest gaming console PlayStation 4 Pro may have just ended before it even fully began with Microsoft's on-going plan to launch another gaming console under the codename, "Xbox Project Scorpio."
Proclaiming itself as "the most powerful console ever," Xbox Project Scorpio essentially boasts of five important things. First, it is equipped with 6 teraflops of graphical processing power. Second, it claims to be the first and only console to enable true 4K gaming and hi-fidelity VR. Third, it has a memory bandwidth of 320 GB/s. Fourth, it is built with 8 CPU cores. And lastly, it is compatible with all Xbox One games and accessories.
Aside from those previously mentioned, there's not much else that can be known about the upcoming Xbox console for experts to give a proper assessment of whether or not it truly is "the most powerful console."
In an interview with Gaming Bolt, Gamesfarm chief executive officer Peter Nagy pointed out that an assessment of a console's power is not solely based on its GPU. With the Xbox Project Scorpio launching in late 2017, the 6 teraflops graphical processing power may no longer be impressive by then. Moreover, a stronger console does not equal better games unless gameplay improvements are permitted.
"It may look powerful now; but it shall be out on the market at the end of 2017," Nagy told Gaming Bolt.
The CEO of the company developing "Vikings: Wolves of Midgard" also stated: "Currently 1080 GTX offers 9TFLOPs and until end of 2017 there will be at least another generation of graphics card released. So at the time it will hit the market it will be on par with average new gaming PC, or below."
Microsoft's "Xbox Project Scorpio" gaming console is scheduled to launch in the later part of 2017, during the holiday season, and it is rumored to be priced at $800.
