Youth Ministers Crushed by Falling Concrete Slab on Washington Highway
The couple killed Monday by a concrete slab falling from an overpass in Washington were reportedly youth ministers at a local church, their church's pastor told media outlets.
The couple, Josh and Vanessa Ellis and their eight-month-old baby, Hudson, were killed instantly when a large concrete slab fell on the top of their truck from a Route 410 overpass in Bonney Lake, a suburb of Seattle.
The incident reportedly happened at around 10:30 a.m. Monday, when construction crews were attempting to repair a sidewalk on Route 410. The slab that fell on the young couple's car reportedly weighed thousands of pounds.
"It's a tragic event," James Ludlow, the couple's pastor at EastPointe Foursquare Church, told the Associated Press in a recent interview. "In the blink of an eye, inhale and exhale, and they're in the presence of God."
Ludlow described the Ellis family as "great people" and "the type of people everybody loves and gravitates to."
The church's pastor also took to the church's official Facebook page to share words of guidance for those mourning the family's loss.
"We are stunned! Shocked! Wounded, broken and dismayed. But we know one thing for sure [...] they are in glory in the loving arms of our King Jesus!" Ludlow wrote on the Eastpointe Foursquare Church's website.
"We WILL rise from these ashes and He will be glorified through this tragedy," Ludlow continued, adding "Hang on to Jesus people. He is really, really good even when we don't feel it."
