The excitement over the release of AMD's upcoming graphics processing unit (GPU) Radeon RX 490 doubled up after the release of a leaked benchmark.

WCCFTech spotted a benchmark scoring in which the performance score of the upcoming Radeon RX 490 reached as high as 8,400 points based on the DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 modes of Oxide Games and Stardock Entertainment's "Ashes of the Singularity" game.

The benchmark report did not specifically label the upcoming GPU as the Radeon RX 490, since it used the codename 687F:C1, but reports linked the said codename to AMD's upcoming GPU. However, the benchmark scoring for "Ashes of the Singularity" is now removed to keep the details a secret. The leaked result was reportedly from an in-house testing, and the company might still be unprepared to release the details about the upcoming GPU to the public.

Based on the removed benchmark report, the rumored Radeon RX 490 is in the same zone as the GeForce GTX 1080 after undergoing multiple tests using the Standard 1,080p that is available in DX12.

Meanwhile, a report from The Country Caller mentioned that the Radeon RX 490 might be released as a dual-GPU card since it is derived from the Vega architecture. According to other reports, the device might fall under the Vega 10 division, which means that it might have around 4,096 Stream Processors, as much as 64 compute units, as much as 16 GB of HBM2, and 512 GB/s memory bandwidth.

However, the report also mentioned that the possibility of seeing the Radeon RX 490 as a dual-GPU card might still be unlikely at this point.

Meanwhile, speculations also claim that the Radeon RX 490 might be released for $600 up to $700 in the market.

More details about the Radeon RX 490 GPU are expected to be released by AMD prior to the device's expected release in sometime in 2017. Still, other speculations claim that the GPU will come out as early as Dec. 13.
