iPad Mini 5 release date, specs news: A9 chipset, pressure sensitive 3D touch, 8MP camera

The iPad mini 4 | Apple

September is fast approaching which means Apple is set to unveil new devices soon. Included in the list of expected devices is the rumored iPad Mini 5. There is no official statement regarding the said Apple tablet but rumors are rife that the iPad Mini 4 is going to get a successor.

According to reports, the iPad Mini 5 is expected to be released this September because the iPad Mini 4 was released last year in the same month. But there's also a possibility that it will be unveiled in a standalone event. The predicted month is sometime in October or towards the end of Q3 this year.

As for the specs and features, reports detailed that the iPad Mini 5 will most likely sport a pressure sensitive 3D touch screen since it's something that most iPhone devices carry now. It's also said to look similar to its predecessor but just thinner, with an expected measurement of 55 mm thick. Another difference is that it may come with a more durable aluminum body case.

Reports also suggest that since the device will be thinner, the battery will be reduced in size, which means that it will be lower than the iPad Mini 4's 5,124mAh battery. However, despite the battery getting a downgrade, it will not affect the battery life because the purported chipset that will be placed under the hood is the A9 processor.

The A9 processor is more powerful and efficient than the A8 processor found in the iPad Mini 4. Rumors also have it that it will have a Rose Gold variant given that the latest models of the iPhone come with the said color. Speculated camera specs include an 8-megapixel rear camera and 1.2-megapixel front camera.

As of now, none of the details released are official so it's best to take them with a pinch of salt.
