Those who have been waiting for a new "Battlefield" installment will be relieved with the latest reports that the popular shooter video game series is set to return in various game platforms with a new theme and is slated for an October 2016 release. The highly anticipated Electronic Arts DICE project has been speculated to be under development over the past few years, but the long wait may be over as the unnamed game sequel dubbed as "Battlefield 5" is rumored to be unveiled within the year.

Rumor also has it that the themes from the previous "Battlefield" video games that are more centered on contemporary subjects will not be featured in the upcoming "Battlefield 5." It is expected the new video game sequel will be the first in the franchise to take a break from modern setting and instead will feature an early 1900s setting, specifically the World War I era. The rumor noted that the First World War theater of war has never been tackled enough in modern-day AAA class first person shooter games, and the World War I theme for "Battlefield 5" is a good way to let the contemporary players explore the mostly unheard war zones of the Great War.

While bringing back the old times may sound like an interesting move for Electronic Arts for their new project, long-time fans of the contemporary "Battlefield" video games are wondering if the translation to a World War I timeline would still result to an actually entertaining and engaging gaming experience. According to a report from IGN, fans may be able to judge the result of the game developer company's experiment soon as "Battlefield 5" is reported to come out as early as Oct. 26.

In a one-on-one interview of video game analyst Michael Pachter with Gaming Bolt, he believes that "Battlefield 5" will reign victorious as the most played video game of all the FPS game titles. He said that the game's popularity is unwavering and even with other huge game titles to be released this year alongside "Battlefield," the latter would still be on top.

"I just think that there's less overall competition. Battlefield 5 itself will be great- it's just that last year there were five games that took 60 million units of sales- Halo, Fallout, Battlefront, Assassin's Creed, and Call of Duty," Pachter said.
