'Chicago PD' season 4 spoilers, plot news: Burgess to get back with Ruzek?
"Chicago PD's" Burgess (Marina Squerciati) has been having a tough love life the past season. She left her fiancée, Ruzek, (Patrick John Flueger) for her partner Roman (Brian Geraghty), and that relationship ended badly. Does that mean that fans will see her get back together with Ruzek, or will she abstain from relationships in the meantime?
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in May, the series' executive producer, Matt Olmstead, revealed that Ruzek is still very much in love with Burgess. The problem was that although Burgess was ready to be married, Ruzek was having second thoughts, which prompted Burgess to give him his engagement ring back and continue with her affair with Roman.
That affair didn't end well either. After their higher-ups figured that something fishy was going on between Roman and Burgess, they urged Roman to pick between laying low and working with a different partner. He chose neither because he wanted to run away with Burgess who, to his dismay, said no, and so he left with his heart broken.
As for Burgess' lovelife in season 4, Olmstead said, "We're still just kicking around ideas for next season but there's certainly a pitch for a vow of celibacy for her. In that she was engaged to a guy upstairs, she was romantic with the guy that she was working with, both of those kind of went sideways on her. There's a part of her that has to recommit to the job and her next boyfriend's probably going to be a mailman."
Being single might be just the career move that Burgess needs as of the moment, and who knows, maybe it can lead to her and Ruzek getting back together in the long run. A little soul-searching wouldn't hurt her chances.
The fourth season of "Chicago PD" will return this September on NBC.
