Fans will be thrilled to know that the "Destiny 2" release date has just been confirmed for 2017. It would be an entirely different offering from "Destiny: Rise of Iron Infusion" but is expected to be just as explosive.

While Bungie, game developer of "Destiny 2," has been tight-lipped regarding its plans for the sequel, the game's publisher, Activision, has been more forthcoming in revealing their plans for the franchise. Without divulging specifics, Activision confirmed in its latest financial report that the rumors about a sequel to "Destiny" has been given the green light and is tentatively lined up for 2017.

They also promised that a "large new" expansion for "Destiny: Rise of Iron Infusion" is set to be released in September. This DLC will be available for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, and as stipulated in the contract between Activision and Bungie, it is expected to be the last of four major "Destiny" DLC expansions before a sequel is launched.

Meanwhile, according to Segment Next, there wouldn't be any major overhauls on "Destiny: Rise of Iron Infusion." Apparently, only certain aspects that affect the flow of regular play will be tweaked to give players a more satisfying gaming experience.

For instance, players will once again be allowed to boost the stats of the weapons they often use when playing. Speaking to Mashable at the recent Electronic Entertainment Expo 2016, representatives for Bungie said they wouldn't be fixing what isn't broken.

"We're looking to not fix what isn't broken and look for stuff that fans have been asking for and looking to make tweaks for. We're focusing on that stuff," they said. "No changes to announce or anything like that for Infusion. I think that's working pretty well in the game."

Watch out for further news about "Destiny: Rise of Iron Infusion" DLC expansion and the actual release date of "Destiny 2."
