'Destiny 2' release date, plot, news & update: PC version confirmed? Sources tease 'play-in destinations'
"Destiny 2," the upcoming sequel to the award-winning online-only shooter video game "Destiny," could be released for the PC in addition to the Xbox One and the PS4.
According to various sources, while the original game was released exclusively for consoles, Bungie is looking to bring the highly anticipated sequel to a PC platform and reach a massive new potential audience, one who was unable to access the first game. Indeed, many "Destiny" fans were disappointed when the game was only made available for consoles.
The rumor that Bungie will be making "Destiny 2" for PC first surfaced on a NeoGAF forum, where poster benny_a claimed that an acquaintance who works at Activision, the video game's publisher, confirmed that the upcoming sequel will be released for PC. This info was apparently announced during an internal presentation.
The poster also revealed that Vicarious Visions and High Moon Studios, which are owned by Activision, will be helping to develop the sequel.
Kotaku, who reported on this rumor, added that it had previously heard similar reports, adding credence to the news.
Though some reports indicated that the studios have already begun developing "Destiny 2," Activision has not confirmed this nor that it will be making the sequel available for PC.
Aside from these rumors, there are also rumblings about Bungie potentially overhauling "Destiny 2" to make it feel like an entirely new game and not just an expansion of the original.
Kotaku reported that sources have mentioned "play-in destinations," which are said to be new activity models that will change how the world of "Destiny" works. This new scheme reportedly means that the planet areas in "Destiny 2" will be populated with more outposts and towns, and that the quests will be much more interesting than the "Destiny" patrol missions.
Bungie has confirmed that it will release "Destiny 2" in 2017. An exact release date has yet to be announced.
