The events in Akira Toriyama's "Dragon Ball Super" are slowly building to the big revelation about Black Goku's real identity. To recap, the latest villain of the hit anime series is revealed to be an alternate version of Son Goku, although he is sporting a dark aura with a great disdain against humanity. Black Goku vows to eradicate all life in the universe, saying that humanity is the Supreme gods' biggest mistake. In the upcoming episode, the mystery involving Black Goku and his possible relation to a Kaioshin from a distant universe will be explained.

There are interesting theories surfacing on the internet regarding Black Goku's identity. It was revealed by the God of Destruction Beerus and his servant, Whis, that the aura of Black Goku is very different from that of the series' main hero, Son Goku. Moreover, they hinted that Black Goku's aura is something familiar and they may already have felt it somewhere. This led Goku, Beerus and Whis to travel to Universe 10, where Beerus believes to be the place to solve the Black Goku mystery. In the previous episode, the Kaioshin apprentice of Universe 10, Zamasu, was finally introduced.

The latest teaser for Episode 53 shows Goku fighting Zamasu, although it appears that Zamasu is a superior fighter over the Earth-based Saiyan. Nevertheless, Beerus suspects that Zamasu is related to Black Goku as they share the same aura.

The Hall of Fame Magazine provided some interesting explanation about Zamasu and Black Goku's similarities. It is rumored that Black Goku is actually Zamasu's apprentice in the future timeline. For some reasons, the real Goku will be possessed by the spirit of the evil Kaioshin. So far, the present Zamasu does not seem to possess the same dark personality of Black Goku, but it is possible that through time, Zamasu's hatred against humanity will develop.
