'Grand Theft Auto VI' release date news: 'GTA 6' expected in 2018 in time for Xbox Two and PS5?

Fans have been clamoring for a new "Grand Theft Auto" ("GTA") game title from Rockstar Games as the last installment from the highly successful franchise was released almost three years ago. Many believe that it is high time for Rockstar Games to launch the sixth installment this year, although fans may have to wait a little longer for "Grand Theft Auto VI" as the rumors are rife that the game studio is planning to release the game in time for the next generation of home consoles.

"Grand Theft Auto VI" has not been officially announced by Rockstar, although the fans of the franchise speculate that the "GTA" team is now working on the new video game this year. It is also heavily speculated that "GTA VI" will be one of the new game projects to be presented by Rockstar at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016 this coming June 14 to 16.

The huge gaming event in June, in which many game and tech enthusiasts all over the world will gather to get the latest scoop in the electronic gaming world, is rumored to showcase the new "Grand Theft Auto" game.

However, as Rockstar may be announcing the game during the event, it is not expected to be released until 2018. To note, "Grand Theft Auto IV" was released back in 2008, and it took five years before "Grand Theft Auto V" was finally released worldwide. If the pattern of five-year gap in between game releases will be followed, "GTA VI" may be launched sometime in 2018, Game N Guide reported.

It is also rumored that the next installment in the "GTA" franchise will be released by the time the next generation of the Xbox and PlayStation consoles are revealed. According to Yibada, the highly anticipated Xbox Two from Microsoft and PlayStation 5 from Sony will be around in the market by 2018, just in time for the game launch of "GTA VI." However, fans should not be excited just yet since the next iterations of consoles are not yet announced.
