'Hawaii Five-0' season 7 release date, plot spoilers news: EP shoots down final season rumors, new and returning cast members on board

The Aloha State's elite task force will soon return for "Hawaii Five-0" season 7, along with new and returning cast members. Additionally, the rumor mill is currently buzzing about a possible end in sight for the series, but showrunner Peter M. Lenkov was quick to shoot down such speculations.

While on NBC's "Today" show to promote his "I Don't Know" concert tour, Jimmy Buffet expressed worry over his character in the series after referring to season 7 as the CBS procedural's last. In "Hawaii Five-0," Buffet plays a recurring role as a helicopter pilot named Frank Bama. Lenkov later on posted a Twitter message addressing Buffet, assuring him that the character and the program are far from saying goodbye at this point in time. "Hey @jimmybuffett - whoever gave you that info is wrong. Bama is alive and well... For many many MORE seasons. Good luck on the tour," the post reads.

New cast members for this season include Rosalind Chao as Hawaii's new governor and "American Crime" actor Faran Tahir to guest star as a wealthy Egyptian-born business tycoon. "CSI: NY" and "NCIS: Los Angeles" alum Claire Forlani is the latest addition to the team, and she will portray a recurring role as Alicia Brown. She is a criminal profiler who works alongside Five-0 in order to track down a serial killer on the loose. Forlani's first appearance as Alicia is set for episode 2.

In an interview with TV Line, Lenkov revealed that McGarett's mother will make a comeback in the show's 150th episode. "We're going to bring McGarrett's mom back (played by Christine Lahti), to wrap up the mom/Wo Fat/father mythology, and then start some new storylines in the episode that follows," he confirmed. Catherine Rollins (Michelle Borth), McGarrett's former girlfriend and almost-fiancée, will also return for the milestone episode.

Catch the season 7 premiere of "Hawaii Five-0" on Friday, Sept. 23 at 9 p.m. EST on CBS.
