'Law and Order: SVU' season 17 spoilers, plot news: Family man attracts Benson's suspicion in 'Intersecting Lives'

The days of a corrections offer's sexual assaulting will soon be over in the penultimate episode of "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit" season 17. In this highly-anticipated episode, "Everybody Loves Raymond" alum Brad Garrett will be playing the character the unit is after.

In episode 22 of "Law and Order: SVU" season 17 titled "Intersecting Lives," Benson's (Mariska Hargitay) team charges Rikers prison guard Gary Munson (Garrett) of sexual assault after he was discovered harassing the female inmates he watches over.

However, the SVU's actions attracted the strong opposition of the entire police force he is with. Munson's union backs him up and hits back at Benson's group by targeting the team but primarily Barba (Raul Esparza).

Munson's protectors are not messing around for sure and Benson knew that shortly after they made a move against Barba. "Someone just tried to kill me," he tells Benson in the "Law and Order: SVU" season 17 episode 22 trailer.

It remains to be seen if the union is trying to hide Munson's evil acts to or they just don't have any idea what kind of monster they are unwittingly defending. It's hard not to believe his stories though because he has the perfect facade as proof.

At the outset, Munson is the epitome of a good husband and father. He is a family man that assiduously works hard for his loved ones. This turns out to be an elaborate ruse served to cover his criminal tendencies.

This is why it is hard to pin him down. In the "Law and Order: SVU" season 17 episode 22 trailer, he denied raping anybody while he was being handcuffed in his home. Add to that the union willing to stop at nothing to prevent Munson from going behind bars.

Will the SVU manage to expose Munson's true self? "Law and Order: SVU" season 17 episode 22 "Intersecting Lives" is the first chapter of the two-part finale. It will air on Wednesday, May 18 at 9 p.m. EDT on NBC.

The closing part of season 17 finale titled "Heartfelt Passages" will air a week after, May 25 in the same timeslot.
