Fans are still waiting for the "Marco Polo" season 3 renewal, which have resulted to some reports that the show is getting cancelled by Netflix.

According to reports, the production costs to do the show is becoming an issue to the streaming company, add to that the report that the show apparently was not as successful as it was expected.

It has been more than a couple of months since the waiting game for "Marco Polo" season 3 renewal. It is unknown for now if it will happen but there's another factor to consider.

It is being reported that Benedict Wong won't reprise his role as Kublai Khan in the new season of the series. Rumor has it that the actor is also having problems with the way the show performs and how it is received.

There are other reports suggesting that Wong has signed up to other projects, which would lead to him ditching "Marco Polo" season 3 or appearing in a limited number of episodes at best.

However, executive producer John Fusco, while writing about the show's diversity on Deadline, noted that the second season of the series "receive the same high praise from both critics and viewers sends a message that is twofold."

"It demonstrates that you can have a series in the top ranks of Most Popular TV Shows while starring mostly Asian and minority actors," Fusco wrote.

"Secondly, it proves that viewers do not discriminate based on race; they are interested in quality programming and storytelling regardless of ethnicity and gender," he continued.

It is believed that Netflix takes into account the accolades its shows receive, much like any other network. With that said, there could be a greater chance that "Marco Polo" season 3 is happening.

For now, though, it's hard to believe that this will be the case as Netflix is not speaking about the show's fate yet. Either way, fans will have to just wait and see for now.
